Bored of not having much to do, Lumina asks the mortals of the realm to collect feathers, beads, and spools of thread for a new headpiece she desired. The mortals scavenged the open grounds in search of these goods, but in the end none of them could come up with the desired quantities. In a show to teach the mortals a lesson about hope, Lumina awarded one of her special items, "Lumina's Hope" to Rahbyn, a saiyan monk, for not giving up hope during this would-be arduous quest.
In their travels the adventurers Kirby, Dreamland Adventurer, and Cyx, saiyan monk, stumbled upon Lumina , in which later in their encounter the Mana Stone of Light was mysteriously stolen and the duo were forced to take the blame. Outraged, Lumina exiled them out of her cavern and demanded that they not return until it was found. After their exile, the adventurers were summoned by Toma who they bribed to gain access to information. The results were grim, Truce was going to be invaded. In a feeble attempt to prevent the obsolete destruction of Truce, the duo call upon the magician, Angela, to put up a barrier - which she manages to due, though she passes out from exhaustion. After which, the duo meet up with Magnus, in hopes of preparing for the dreaded attack, and that perhaps they will be strong enough to stop the madness that is Lugar and his army of beastmen.
Continuing their invasion of cities in attempts to gain access to the Mana Stones, the Beastmen have finally made their way up to Truce in which the darkest magics are used to dispel the barrier put up by Miss Angela and gain access to Truce - who without an army has no choice but to surrender. Lead by the vicious Lugar, bound wolves and beastmen are quickly positioned in Truce ransacking some of the merchants and holding the citizens hostage. After the domination of Truce, Lugar reveals his true plan - to gain access to the mana stone of light and break the forbidden seal on it, releasing its energy. In a futile attempt to prevent to stop him, Kirby takes off to the caves but realizes it was all part of Lugar's plan to lure him away. Using this to his advantage, Lugar quickly slays a group of children in cold blood as a warning to those who dare oppose him.
Desperate to save Truce, the group makes their way back to the Cave of Waterfalls and call upon Lumina for help - to which their surprise does appear and decides she just might help. However, little did they know they were merely guides for Lugar, who makes his appearance before encasing Lumina within a crystal and taking off with her. Distraught by the recent events, the group is surprised to find that Selan may have an answer to this dilemma. After much conflict, Selan gives her heirloom - a chunk of dreamstone, to take to a girl in Wutai who may know more about this mysterious rock. Enter Yuffie, the materia hunter, who is more than happy to relieve the group of the dreamstone and in exchange gives them a gold rock... a rock for a rock, seems fair enough. They are then advised to speak with Shera of Rocket Town, as she may know more about. As it seems, the gold rock once belonged to Shera's father and as a reward for returning the lost rock, Shera awards the group with the star hammer - a lost relic she found in the mountains while hiking. The group return to town to show Melchior, the local weapon smith, the hammer and understand its mysterious power. Evidently, the hammer has the capability to shatter the mana stones and because of its deadly power it must be destroyed. Bad luck rains upon the group again, as Lugar intervenes knocking our adventurers and Melchior out before making leave with the star hammer.
Hearing the battle rage from afar Selan arrives and revives the party to full health, though a tad too late.
Hopeless in what to do next, the group again receives information from Toma about Rich having some information in his wouldbe library up in north Truce. Eager to learn what to do next, they adventure north and hold conference with Rich. Apparently, the beastmen align themselves with the moon, which by elemental law is weak to forest magic - which is ruled by Dryad; though, the whereabouts of Dryad are unknown and the chances of finding her are slim. The young Rich then informs the group of a summoner, who goes by the name of Klarth, who is bound to arrive at Truce on vacation and may know more about the elemental spirits than lore and folk alike. Albeit the recent events, the young saiyan monk, Cyx, begins his training in the forest. Through a freak accident, Cyx ends up hurting Angela, as she was caught in the crossfire of his training. Taken as a direct attack, Angela breaks into a fit of rage and condemns Cyx and the rest of Truce to the hands of Lugar; and to see that the destruction of Truce undergoes as planned Angela switches sides and joins Lugar in his invasion. Boggled by her recent decision, the group falls into a state of despair, unaware of the dark aura forming around their former magical ally.
Enraged that the mana stone of light cannot be located, Lugar calls for a full scale attack on the would-be militia and then Truce. However, as he sends wave after wave of wolves and beastmen after the militia he is shocked to find that they were easily defeated. Out of options, Lugar flings himself into battle and after a long battle is defeated. However, this beastman has more than one ace up his sleeve as he escapes before being delivered the final blow. Much to his dismay, a new evil makes his appearance, exiling Lugar from the beast kingdom for his failure.
Using the defeat of Lugar to her advantage, Angela steps in and claims Truce has her own, denouncing its democracy and claiming the new found crown as her own. To prove her power, Angela calls upon the lowly salesman Hassan, who she quickly slays using her dark magicks. Shocked, by this new turn of events the group has no choice but to surrender for the time being, as to prevent a genocide in this lowly city. Calling forth upon the powers of darkness, Angela brings forth a would be castle to reign Truce from. She then calls upon our adventurers and holds conference, confessing that she did this for love and for respect. Detailing her childhood, the adventurers learn of Angela's lonely life and disrespectful mother, however they still plea that she stop this insanity and come to her sense. Angered by their comments, the new queen throws the group out of her stronghold and commences on her harsh ruling.
Finally after much wait, the wayward summoner makes his much needed arrival into Truce. The group meet up with him and explain the recent events that have torn the town apart. Uneasy if he should help or not, Klarth finally gives in and tells the group to go to the nearest high point, the Barrel Volcano to the south. After a long trek there, the group arrives and using all of his powers, Klarth calls upon Luna, spirit of the moon. The group pleas for Luna's help who explains she cannot do much, but tell them where the location of Lumina is; in which she vaguely describes Lumina's presence to the far northeast. Figuring out that Wutai would be a prime candidate, the group makes its way over only to discover that they were correct in their assumptions as they come across Lumina and Palmer in Godo's house. Following the swift defeat of Palmer, the group returns to Angela.
Arriving at the stronghold, Lumina calls upon the help of Shade and two combine their magic to purge Deathjester's control over Angela. Exhausted by her transformation, Angela collapses as Lumina thanks the group and Shade before heading off. Lingering behind, Shade confesses and explains what happened. As it is known, Shade saw the beastmen searching for his stone some time ago and heard that they were after the stone of light. In an attempt to prevent them from attaining both stones, Shade hid both the stone of darkness and light in a place where no mortal can ever hope in finding them, that is with Jinn, the spirit of wind. Fully rested, Angela springs into action and reveals that she has transformed herself into a sorceress, a magician of the light arts, and promises to fix the damage that she caused and remain with Truce in hopes of leading them to prosperity once again. After some celebrating, Angela thanks the group and wishes them luck in finding the Deathjester, whenever he may show up, if at all in the near future.
Searching for his long lost master, Kirby enters the Cave of Waterfalls, as advised by Angela, and begins his search for Dragus. As a result in helping in the rescue of Lumina and the salvation of Truce, Lumina revives Dragus as for the two to be reunited once again. Though their reuniting is cut short as Kirby, remembers the urgent news he received from Popstar, and leaves in a hurry leaving Dragus in a state of disbelief.
Perhaps it is true, one can never have what they truly desire, but merely experience glimpses into the false reality in which their dreams do come true. In this sense, that is perhaps what each character experienced through this adventure...the indulgence in evil, the battle for hope, the longing to be with another... all experienced, but only for a short while. Though, evil was thwarted this time, it is perhaps is just an illusion to keep those who fight for good at bay long enough for a darker evil to arrive and catch them by surprise... perhaps... the possibility to be always exist and thus all possibilities must be taken into thought, the same applies for the multitude of consequence, both good and bad.Duran, only making a few appearances about the quest received perhaps the most important news straight the spirits, the condition of his home town and the location of the mana stone of the moon. After the transformation of Angela, Duran questioned Shade about his hometown, in which the reply was not the most positive, and perhaps a slight in the ambiguously bad side. Some time before this meeting with Shade, Duran found himself face to face with Luna, the spirit of the moon. He asked, where the location of her mana stone was as he wished to gain access to the holy land and perhaps provide salvation to this newly created world. In a jest, Luna replied with poetic descriptions of the location of her stone...
"It's somewhere within the arms of the sky...
Floating high above the horizon in a kingdom of pure magic and horror...
In a world of lies and truth...
In a sea of roses and thorns...
There it lies...imprisoned in the hearts of many..."
Mysterious, as her personal element, Luna left the travelers with that poem, in hopes that someday they might be able to find the Mana Stone of the Moon, before evil pervades it.
