Homo sapiens: The standard, populous race

Common and abundant, the human race has evolved over the ages to possess among the most adaptable nature that the Cleft has ever seen. Seeded and spawned in myriad other dimensions, the humans of yore found themselves within the Cleft through fate, luck, or their own doing. With their versatility, they spread out across the realm - claiming land, ocean, and air as their own. Being the first species to accept reality and conjure up the courage to explore, humans remain the most abundant race within the Cleft.
With an intelligence to match their tenacity, and a mental hardiness to equal their physical endurance, humans have come to develop an overall intermediate capability in all professions - capable of excellence as well as abject failure. Making up for their lack of specialization, humans have slightly above-average stats in all areas.
Small, nature-loving creatures
Children of nature, Moogles are the fur-bodied companions of the woods and caves which they inhabit. With small, rotund bodies, the Moogles are often admired for their cuteness and charming qualities. More in tune with nature than most other creatures, Moogles find themselves at home in the wilderness, and, through time, have come to develop various dances to pay homage to their home as well as invoke its assistance. The many dances of the Moogles have sprawled across the land, famed for their delicate movements or the fury of nature that they conjure forth.
Small in stature, they excel in stealthy professions, which require dexterity and speed. With their small, soft bodies, Moogles are able to move about swiftly but a few hard hits is enough to bring most Moogles down. Moogles have infrared vision from their constant activities in dark areas.
Belligerent shapechanging humanoids

Seemingly-natural conquerors of the Cleft, Saiyans are intelligent hybrids of ape and human, possessing an unmatched physical might. They are known to be brutal and unforgiving, even against the hardiest of enemies. Due to their natural strength and mobility, Saiyans are often considered to be paragons of the warrior ideal, capable of vast potential presented in these brute professions. Often blinded by bloodlust and the spirit of competition, Saiyans lack the acute senses of the other races, making them seem among the most unperceptive and foolhardy of races.
Originating in a society built on dominance and raw power, Saiyans rooted in their own culture come well-equiped with natural arrogance - shunning weaker races and even other Saiyans. Though the desire to rule flows through their blood, Saiyans, too, were forced to adapt to the unique natures of the Cleft, diluting their gene pool with that of humans and hylians. Strong and hearty, the Saiyan ideal glorifies strength and toughness, but tends to come up short when dealing with mental disciplines.
Powerful magic beings

Partly crafted from the strands of Mana that weave between entire dimensions, Espers are thought by some to be the very incarnation of magic. With a vague, unrecalled past, Espers tend to stay distant, aloof, and mysterious. Though once amorphous in nature, Espers are more commonly humanoid - their skin coming in a variety of hues and only sometimes opaque. Espers of more mundane tones have been known to pass as frail humans. Due to their mystical nature, Espers have a natural curiosity, and most spend their lifetimes studying themselves and the environment they live in.
With origins in the magical, Espers have an affinity to wizardry, sorcery, and various other forms of magical studies, making them apt wizards and priests. Being so rooted in the mystical and metaphysical, Espers can ignore some of the natural laws of the Cleft, and float above the ground as easily as most other species walk. Without a naturally-developed physique, Espers lack true musculature, and their strength and endurance suffer as a result.
Scholarly devotees of the gods
Graceful beings closely resembling humans, Hylians have arisen as a race to be reckoned with. Their origins residing within an ancient relic of Hyrule, Hylians were supposedly conjured forth from three golden goddesses. Hylians have prevailed along the ages just as well as humans. Humanoid in structure, Hylians are slender and more lithe than humans, though a more defining trait is their long, pointed ears that are said to be capable of hearing the words of the gods themselves. Though Hylian of martial professions are not rare, they are not as common as the many priests and clerics that have risen from their ranks.
With much wisdom and above-average intelligence, Hylians make excellent priests and great geomancers. Uncommonly, however, apt rogues, warriors, or members of any other profession can be found among them. With their innate piety and insight, Hylians can see the moral auras of others - allowing them to discern the truth behind people. They also get the Pray skill at creation.
Reclusive giants skilled in weaponry
A race of myth and legend, the Gigantos were once considered to have been extinct by both natural and societal disasters. However, as with most species, the Gigantos have shown the obligation to endure and have begun the slow and steady process of repopulation. Gigantos are a proud and mighty race of people, and substantially larger than most. Hardy individuals, most Gigantos are capable of braving the harsh climates that they encounter, as they naturally prefer warm, rocky areas where they can achieve peace and solitude from the other inhabitants of the Cleft. Slowly evolving within these arid and barren regions, Gigantos have developed a natural resistance to attacks originating from the earth, though they have also developed a weakness to cold as they lack much contact with it.
Due to their strength and rigorous training, Gigantos can wield two-handed weapons (with the exception of bows) in one hand, allowing them to hold a shield or an item in their free hand. Hardy and large, Gigantos possess both immense strength and endurance, making them ideal as front-line fighters. Unfortunately, they tend to lack both physical grace and education, leaving them largely unsuited for technical or magical professions. Giganto thirst slower than other races due to their desert origins.
Sentient mushroom folk
Creatures of Mana and caretakers of the woods, the Matango are unique in the Cleft. Once nothing more but fungal growth, the Manango changed, with the assistance of Mana, into a sentient, bipedal version of their former state. Primitive tribes of these beings have emerged in many wooded areas of the Cleft, although some have taken the initiative to develop themselves further. Though secretive, the Matango are not as shy as once thought, as groups eventually came out from hiding and even ventured into cities to learn about the other species who inhabit - and sometimes threaten - the same world as the Matango. Their bodies are smooth and porous, and appear in various colors, though most Matangui come in shades of peach, yellow, and white. The predominant feature of the Matangui is the oversized mushroom cap that crowns their bodies, present in many colors, patterns, and sizes.
A race of walking mushroom-beings, Matangui possess a tough skin and natural hardiness, making them capable of taking more than a few hits. Due to their origins and affinity with nature, Matangui have come to access the wisdom of Mana and nature, offering them a natural insight unmatched by others. However, due to their fungal structure, Matangui possess little strength, as they have simply failed to produce an actual musculature. Because of their clunky shapes, they often lack dexterity and mobility as well. Sturdy and wise, the Matangui make excellent priests, capable of invoking the strongest of healing magics.
Sapient androids patterned after humans

More than mere machines, Reploids are a legitimate race of peoples, created by humans. Even capable of emotion and learning, they are just as varied as their creators in both body and mind. With incredible life-spans and intelligence, they have thrived in the Cleft, and even reproduced, slowly making more of themselves as all other races have. Some have taken to the stars, isolating themselves from the other species of the world, but many still walk the surface of the Cleft. 'Born' fully-grown and with a diminished potential for personal growth, however, they tend towards mental instability and unusual perspectives on life.
Reploids can be constructed for any purpose, and fit into any profession, excelling at most due to their raw physical prowess and quick minds. Unfortunately, they lack the development in their early years that leads to true wisdom and insight. Though rare, Reploids have been known to channel Mana into magics of all sorts.
Shelled, adaptable terrapins

Koopas are an unusual race of turtles that have developed sentience. It has been rumored that their intelligence was granted through magical means, though all of this has been up for debate ever since the discovery of this unconventional race. With a heavy shell on their backs and tough, leathery skin, Koopas have come to span the globe and Cleft - scattering their populations in remote locations. Seen as bipedal tortoises, Koopas wear thick, heavy shells of various colors, that protect their tender torsi.
Naturally adaptable, Koopas have been known to come to develop various societies of themselves, such as Paratroopas, Magikoopas, and Lakitus. Possessing natural armor, Koopas have been developed to endure punishment, but their clunky armor has left them with low mobility and agility. However, due to their origins, they possess more than reasonable strength and slightly above average intelligence. Their bony carapace protects them from the effects of heat and fire, but gives them an inherent disadvantage in water.
Homunculus beings of witch Deneb
Often not considered a true race, Pumpkinheads are classified as subhuman creatures that were magically created by the charming witch Deneb. The origin of the Pumpkinheads is a horrible one, as the witch Deneb experimented repeatedly with specimens before finally perfecting the transformation. Physically, Pumpkinheads appear as regular humans from the shoulders down. But up top, they have hollow jack-o-lanterns for heads. Originally, Pumpkinheads were rare, as their only source was directly from the witch Deneb, but they have spread to the far corners of the Cleft, apparently as capable of mundane reproduction as any other species.
Sometimes thought of as monsters, Pumpkinheads have been frowned upon for their twisted existence. With sub-par abilities compared to those of humans, Pumpkinheads have developed some traits to compensate for their weakness. Pumpkinheads have the ability to kick their heads at foes and cause great harm to them, permanently damaging their enemies' health. Once human, Pumpkinheads possess the similar average ability to excel and fail at any class, though they are, overall, a bit weaker. However, their ever-evolving magical abilities have come to make up for such weakness.
Remort-only Races:
Reclusive people with gemstone hearts
A group long persecuted for the value in their corpses, the Jumi are a humanoid race which has evolved with a gem core rather than a fleshy heart. This core imbues them with magical regenerative abilities, but is highly sought after by others due to the material they are made of, which has been known to range from pyrite to diamond.
Because they are often killed for their gem cores, nearly all remaining Jumi have gone into hiding and rarely, if ever, reveal their racial origins when they are in public. Consequently, the vast majority of the Cleft denizens have never encountered a Jumi to their knowledge. This has led many people to speculate that the Jumi are actually extinct. Following tradition, Jumi tend to travel in pairs, acting as a Knight (protective aggressor) and a Guardian (protective healer).
Intelligent homarid warriors

Lobstermen are bipedal crustaceans, hailing from a distant tropical island. They stand as tall as humans, are covered with a chitinous, mottled brown exoskeleton, and are equipped with antennae, compound eyes, and large, serrated pincers instead of hands. They shed their exoskeleton semi-annually as they grow.
Despite their secluded society, lobstermen are cunning and clever. Slow but strong, they enjoy ambush tactics. Obvious children of the sea, they are well-adapted to aquatic environments but their physiology doesn't cause them too much undue suffering on land, either.
Soft, voracious balloons
Native to the planet Popstar, Kirbies enjoy spending their time eating and napping, letting their dreams carry them to worlds of joy. Pink and round, Kirbies have often been compared to creampuffs or marshmallows. Oustanding abilities of a Kirby include the ability to inhale enemies and steal their abilities as well as limited flight through puffing oneself with air.
With only flipperlike hands, a Kirby lacks much strength at all. However, their flexible composition allows them to manipulate themselves to increase motility and sustain blows.
Travelling, independent vegetation

Ranboobs are a reclusive race of cactuslike people found in isolated regions. Their skin is wholly green and covered in small thorns. A crown of leaves grows on every Ranboob's head, which are known to be shed during the fall. It is not uncommon for stems and shoots to sprout from a Ranboob's limbs, but many Ranboobs consider this unsightly and will trim themselves, especially if they lead social lives.
Despite being relatively unknown due to living in out-of-the-way places, Ranboobs are not rare and thrive throughout their habitat. They live either solitary lives or in bands of up to several dozen members. Self-sufficiency is a virtue among Ranboobs.
Rotund, quiet mystics

A now scarce race of psychic creatures once found the world over, a Nu is an outstanding sight indeed. Short, wide, blue creatures with thin arms and legs, a Nu is not well suited for walking. As a result, they spend much of their time sleeping. With their mental power, Nu have performed such miraculous feats as switching bodies with others and clairvoyance into the nature of objects.
Due to psychic power and long life span, Nu have exceptional intelligence and wisdom. These same mental abilities give Nu good strength as well, as long as they can find a weapon they can easily hold. But due to their shape and composition, Nu don't have the capacity to exercise other physical feats.
