Variance looks up at the perched Seikou, perking a brow. "Interesting lookout spot you have there!"
Seikou looks down at Variance, grinning. "I like it up here. Good view, nice breeze..."
Variance lets a quiet laugh pass under his watch as he rests on one of the benches around the fountain. "I'm sure."
Seikou leans over a bit more, preparing to say something, and nearly falls off the roof "Ack!"
Seikou looks embarrased and jumps off the rooftop, landing fairly neatly. "I guess that wasn't the best spot..."
Variance breaks a faint smirk, laying his spear across his lap leisurely. "And this is why we don't brood on rooftops."
Seikou looks slightly annoyed, brushing hair out of his eyes. "I wasn't brooding, I was on -duty-!"
"Not that there's a use for it." Variance's expression turns somewhat irritated at the thought. "I've been around for the past few hours with nothing out of place."
Seikou shrugs. "There has to be a maverick somewhere..."
You say 'True... Though after a month or two of restless searching, it's understandable if someone wants a little time to themselves, even if such quietness usually means scheming and plotting.'
Seikou says 'I really don't have much to do other than patrol... It's not like I know anyone around here besides you...'
Variance nods slightly, breathing a tired sigh. "At least we end up doing our job out of a lack of better things to do. Not to say that there are, mind you."
A dull bong rings through Truce four times, beckoning the fall of dusk.
Seikou shrugs. "So, anywhere else that contains hostiles, or are we on holiday break?"
You say 'We might as well be on break. Even the more hostile areas have been quieter than usual.'
Seikou nods. "Sounds good..." He collapses on the bench besides Variance. "Besides, rooftops are boring..."
Variance slumps a little on the bench, reflexively putting the end of his spear to the ground to prevent slipping further, then mutters something about a break room and contracters being late mostly under his breath.
Seikou seems more awake than Variance for a little while, then starts to slump against a wall. "Tired..."
Variance lets out a cynical half-laugh, looking up at the sky. "As soon as we stop parading around the countryside, we turn into paperweights. I guess that's how these jobs turn out."
Seikou shakes his head. "I'll be fine in a few minutes..."
You say 'I was speaking in general, but that's good to know.'
Seikou sighs. "I will never stop fighting the Mavericks... I will never become a 'paperweight.' No matter what the circumstances... I will fight..."
Variance casts a glance to Seikou, expression turning to something like what one would look like when something's made a significant impression on them. 'He's convicted... certainly more than I. Maybe...' His gaze turns to the sky again, 'I should find something more to fight for?'
Seikou notices Variance's expression. "Are you alright, Variance-sama?"
Variance nods quickly. "Yes, fine, just... thinking."
Seikou sighs and looks down. "I'm sorry if my little rant on fighting scared you. It's just that..."
You say 'It's nothing like that...'
Variance straightens himself up, becoming more thoughtful. "It just got me thinking... I know I'm a Hunter because I want to protect humanity from those like Vice, but from the way it sounds, you have something much bigger in mind..."
Seikou shakes his head. "I'd love to say I was fighting for some higher cause, but really... It's just..."
Variance turns to more obviously address Seikou. "Just...?" Perhaps he shouldn't pry, but the subject held his interest steadfast.
Seikou grins bitterly "....It's really about revenge."
Variance nods confirmingly, turning back to the fountain and his own thoughts. Valid reason, he didn't need to go any further with it.
