[Maverick Hunter Headquarters]
Seikou approaches the door and knocks quietly, looking nervous.

Variance raises his gaze some from a strangely entrancing crack on the far wall, prodding the 'open' button with the blunt end of his spear to let the visitor in.

Seikou walks in slowly, still looking nervous, staff resting across his bast for now. "Anou... Konnichiwa... I'm Seikou... I believe we've met before...?"

Variance nods confirmingly, starting to push himself to stand. "We have."

Seikou says '...I was just wondering if there were any positions open or anything...'

Seikou has lost his normal cool and seems to be deliberately humbling himself before Variance.

Variance walks towards the desk in the far end of the room, flipping through the menagerie of forms upon it. "I'm certain there are, but without a secretary, it'll take a bit of work to find anything resembling an application, if we even -have- any."

The shuffling stops briefly, Variance's gaze turning back to Seikou, carrying a tone of assurance. "And you can drop the humility, we're -all- humiliated about this place."

Seikou grins at this, restoring some of his cool. "It seems that no matter where I go, the Hunters will be eternally underfunded and disorganized. Ah well."

Variance tries to stifle a rising laugh, which is quickly replaced by an irritated sigh as he surfaces from the desk. "Probably wouldn't be so hard if Signas was actually -around- more than five percent of the time." He says it towards himself, but loud enough to be heard.

Seikou says 'Tell me, Variance-sama... Why are you a Hunter...?'

"Well," Variance begins, resting his spear on the desk to free himself enough to reach for one of his many water vessels, "It mostly started with a certain homicidal maniac by the name of 'Vice'..."

Seikou nods and waits silently for Variance to continue.

You say 'Though before that, I was meant to be a Hunter in the first place. Falling here cut that plan short, however, and the meeting with said Maverick made my purpose more than clear. Gave me a conviction, if you will.'

Seikou says 'What was he doing, exactly? The standard Maverick routine of running around and slaughtering humans?'

"That about covers it." Variance takes a moment to get a little more comfortable on the edge of the desk he's leaning on, brow furrowing. "Though... it was like he -meant- to do it in front of me."

You say 'The whole affair still confuses me to this day, but I'm sure the record will be set straight when we inevitably meet again.'

Seikou nods. "I'm sorry if I invaded upon your privacy..."

Variance stands fully upright again, waving a hand dismissively. "Not a problem."

You say 'I'm not sure when - or if - Signas will show up from whatever little secret party room he's hiding in, but I'll make sure to mention you if you're not around to ask yourself.'

Seikou nods. "Thank you very much, Variance-sama."

Variance smirks cynically. "You're more than welcome to wait here if you wish, although I'm sure no one would want to stay here for more than absolutely necessary." A colorful little curse about the base rises from under his breath, almost inaudible.

Seikou nods. "If you don't mind..."

Variance nods himself, using the desk as a makeshift bench again. "I apologize for the lack of luxuries, such as running water, but I'm sure that'll change soon enough."

Seikou settles against the wall a little more. "I'd be happy to buy furniture and stuff. I have some spare money."

You say 'As do I, but I'm not sure how Signas would feel about his little lackies going out and doing things without his consent.'

Seikou shakes his head. "I somehow doubt he would object to furniture."

Variance sighs a little, gaze wandering to the ceiling. "Maybe not, I'm not sure. And you know what they say about assuming..."

Variance boredly rests his head on his propped-up hand as he writes another uninteresting Patrol Report. The sight of Seikou surprises him, mostly from the fact he's still -here-. /A Hunter should get used to his base, I suppose./
