Lilly - A Dark Reminiscence

The hiss of Aura's shallow breathing was the thing that sounded in
the small stone room where she lay, peacefully sleeping on a small
black cot. Deep in the southern reaches of an abandoned castle in
the ruins of Lea Monde, she slept through the absolute stillness of
the night, unaware that only one room away, a pale figure was
watching, deliberating. The woman's claw-like fingernails tapped
soundlessly against the stone wall that she leaned back against,
soft green eyes glowing dimly in the darkness. While on the outside
she looked complacent, it was on the inside where the battle was
truly being fought. The woman smirked, a faint grin aimed at the
sleeping girl only a handful of feet away.
The young woman is truly remarkable. I haven't seen this design
of power in ages; not since that time, so long ago...
In her mind's eye, she remembered in vivid detail a time long ago,
a time when she was much more at ease than the trouble, renegade
life she now found herself living. Once upon a time, she had served
under Lord Dracula himself; but now, in a land unknown to her, she
knew of only one thing. All she could do was run... and keep
running... but what was she running from?
The woman's smirk faded, her pearlescent fangs glinting sharply
despite the lack of light in the doorway. She hadn't been able to
wisen up to the fact that he had been slain already, her lord's
demise bringing the walls of her home crashing down upon her. Just
the thought of it caused her fist to involuntarily clench, her nails
digging into the palm of her pale hand.
That damn hunter... he wrecked everything...
Her attention was caught as Aura suddenly twisted, turning in an
unconscious manner in her sleep, before finding a position that she
once again grew still in. The woman frowned mildly, padding over
in silent footsteps toward the sleeping girl, and pausing just
beside, looking down at her.
All the anguish I sensed in her was astounding. All the pain, the
anger, the sorrow... where did it all come from? It seemed so
familiar. Like my own, so long ago... but in those times, it was
still not the same. Or was it?
A shadow rippled and conformed out of the air beside her, shaping
into a black-winged, single-silvery-eyed creature that emitted a
soft, dark aura. It blinked several times, the lone eye looking
from girl to woman, and back again. The woman shook her head,
raising an opening a palm dismissively.
"Everything is fine. I made a vow to that reploid that I would
not harm the child, and I plan to keep my word. Though my world
is different, it was never my intention to change the one for
those who already exist here."
Unlike some other idiot I know...
The dark spirit merely hovered there for a moment, before fading
back into the darkness without a trace. Still, the pale-skinned
woman continued watching over Aura as the night wore on, her eyes
calm and calculating.
We'll see. You'll help me more than I first thought, little one.
